For every person beyond five, the per-employee charge applies on top. A 25-employee business on Essentials pays £10 + (20 × £2) = £50/month. At 50 employees, the same tier costs £10 + (45 × £2) = £100/month.
That linear scaling is what the advertised £10 headline never mentions.
What Is Included at Each Sage Payroll Tier
Essentials covers everything needed to run compliant UK payroll: PAYE processing, RTI submissions, statutory pay calculations (SMP, SSP, SPP), auto-enrolment, payslips, and an employee self-service portal. Standard adds time tracking and enhanced reporting.
Premium layers in shift scheduling and HR analytics tools.
What none of the tiers includes: P11D forms (Sage directs benefits-in-kind reporting to HMRC’s own P11D Online or a separate Sage module), BACS payment submission (payroll and payment are separate), and multi-company processing.
