What this index measures
The Whichapp Integration Depth Index assesses how deeply each provider integrates with the HR, finance, and IT systems that buyers most commonly run alongside global payroll. The index covers three integration categories: HRIS connectors (two-way sync with platforms like Workday, BambooHR, HiBob, and Rippling's native ecosystem), finance system integrations (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, and bank-direct payment flows), and identity / SSO (SAML, SCIM, and Google Workspace connectivity).
A very-high rating indicates the provider maintains bidirectional, real-time integrations across all three categories, with a documented integration marketplace. A high rating indicates strong coverage in two categories and partial in the third. Moderate indicates standard HRIS connectors plus limited finance integrations. Low indicates connector reliance is primarily API-only or Zapier-based, with no native integrations beyond a small number of HRIS platforms.
Key findings
In Whichapp's sample of 17 providers observed in May 2026:
- Deel and Rippling rate very-high on integration depth. Rippling's rating reflects its native HR and IT platform architecture. Integrations are built into the platform rather than bolted on. Deel's marketplace covers 100+ integrations including NetSuite, Workday, and BambooHR, with bidirectional data flows.
- 6 providers rate high: Remote, Papaya Global, G-P, Lano, Plane, and Gusto. These providers cover standard HRIS connectors and offer meaningful finance system integrations, though depth and documentation quality varies.
- 6 providers rate moderate: Atlas HXM, Multiplier, Oyster HR, Pebl, Playroll, and WorkMotion. Standard HRIS connectors are present, but finance and SSO integrations are limited or require custom development.
- 3 providers rate low: Remofirst, Safeguard Global, and Horizons. Integration capability is primarily API-based or limited to a small number of HRIS platforms. Buyers with complex integration needs should confirm connector availability before signing.
Buyer implications
Integration depth matters most when payroll data flows between systems automatically. If headcount changes in your HRIS should trigger payroll updates without a manual export, or if payroll journal entries should post directly to your ERP, a provider rated moderate or low will require custom development or a manual process bridge. Buyers should request a live demo of the specific integration they need rather than accepting "we integrate with X" as sufficient evidence.
Limitations
- Ratings are based on provider documentation observed in May 2026. Integration marketplaces change; new connectors may have been added or deprecated since observation.
- This preview uses a qualitative 4-tier scale. The full Q3 2026 index will use a numeric Whichapp Depth Score (WDS) across 12 individual integration dimensions.
- Integration depth reflects what is documented and available. It does not assess integration reliability, sync latency, or error-handling quality.
